October is another good month for festivals and fiestas some of the Big Festivals that happen in the year, happen in October like the Lanzones Festival of Camiguin, Aswang Festival of Capiz, Zamboanga’s Hermosa Festival, and the very unique and colorful Masskara Festival of Bacolod City!

  • Sinanggiyaw Festival – October 4, 2008

The name Sinanggi-yaw is taken from 2 old Cebuano words, ‘Sinanggi’ meaning abundance of harvested agricultural products of our farmers and ‘Sayaw’ meaning dance. Through street dancing and field presentation, performers shall dance merrily bringing all the Sinanggi-performance focused on three aspects: planting, harvesting and thanksgiving.

  • Lanzones Festival – October 25 – October 28, 2008

The Lanzones fruit is a major source of the Camiguin Islands’ livelihood and it is for the annual harvest that they celebrate this thanksgiving event — the Lanzones Festival. Normally held every third week of October, it is a four-day grand festival of the island’s agriculture and tourism industries highlighted by a tableau of local culture and a grand parade of lanzones, the golden sweet fruit found abundantly in the entire province.

  • Halad Festival – October 15, 2008

Halad Festival is the traditional gesture of thanksgiving by the Talisaynons during the annual fiesta celebration. People from all walks of life flock to the city to dance, offer and join the merriment as one grateful community in celebration of the feast in honor of Sta. Teresa de Avila. The city comes alive with activities such as trade fairs, nightly variety shows, civic parade and street dancing. Cooking demonstrations & a food fair will also feature the city’s famous product, lechon, acclaimed to be one of the best in the country. The celebration is laced with a series of nightly presentations and display of agro-industrial products and the search for Ms. Talisay City Tourism. Talisaynons go back to Talisay City just to celebrate and to take part of the Fiesta celebration.

  • Ibalong Festival -  October 25 – October 31, 2008

The Ibalong Festival is a joyous celebration, a blaze of colour and a riot of music – and it goes on for days. The costumes ranges from the beautiful to the bizarre. It is a week-long festivity depicting Bicols early beginning as portrayed by the characters in the epic entitled “ IBALONG.

  • Kasanggayahan Festival – October 15 – October 25, 2008

Every October of each year, the Kasanggayahan Festival is joyously celebrated in Sorsogon in commemoration of its foundation as a Province. It is a province-wide festival, with the center of activities in Sorsogon City. This festival was derived from an old Bicol word “kasanggayahan,” a local term meaning prosperity and happiness.

  • Kidapawan City Fruit Festival – October 5 – October 10, 2008

An Agro-Tourism event never experienced before in the Philippines Festival. Lots of fascinating activities await every individual but the most thrilling and exciting of all is the Fruit Galore. Here, tons of exotic tropical fruits will be arranged on a make-shift table 800 meters long under the pine trees on the highway island for the public to eat free of charge.

  • Leyte Gulf Landing Anniversary – October 20 – October 26, 2008

The Leyte Gulf Landing Anniversary commemorates the landing of Gen. Douglas MacArthur on the shores of Palo, Leyte to liberate the Philippines from the Japanese occupation

  • Kinilaw Festival – October 2, 2008

A festival showcasing different styles in preparing Kinilaw, a raw fish delicacy. It also features the variety of fish, seafoods and other marine products in the locality.

  • Aswang Festival -October 28 – October 30, 2008

A festival organized by Dugo Capiznon, Inc. determined to change the negative notion of Capiz being an Aswang haven and turn it into an advantage. The festival intends to eclipse the aswang impression with the world-class quality of Capiz’ seafood products and warm captivating hospitality of the Capiznons.

  • Zamboanga Hermosa Festival – October 1 – October 31, 2008

The “City of Flowers” celebrates its grand annual festival featuring the “vintas” (colorful native sailboats) in a fast- paced regatta, cultural and flower shows, art exhibits and trade fairs.

  • Ana Kalang Festival -October 18 – October 22, 2008

The festival supposedly got its name from the legendary head of the tribe before Christianity was brought to the Philippines – Ana Kalang. This beautiful and capable leader according to myth was known for her kindness, generosity and wealth. She allegedly saw the Virgin Sta. Ana, who took the poison out of the lanzones fruit so that it can be edible, thus, the name Ana Kalang Festival. The festivities also commemorate a bountiful harvest of the town’s agro-industrial products.

  • Eastern Samar Surfing Crown – October 18 – October 21, 2008

On October 18 to 21, 2006 the Philippine Surfing Federation, the Municipality of Guiuan, Eastern Samar and the Provincial Government of Eastern Samar, in cooperation with the Department Of Tourism, Region VIII will launch the second Eastern Samar Surfing Crown at Calicoan Island in Guiuan, Eastern Samar.

  • Masskara Festival and Bacolod Charter Day Celebration – October 1 – October 21, 2008

Bacolod City never seems to lose its luster, especially when Masskara celebration comes. The annual Masskara Festival Held in Bacolod City every October is a celebration which has earned for Bacolod the title “City of Smiles”. This is Bacolod’s biggest event that reflects the Bacoleños’ love for fun and gaiety.
