Bulacan Festivals - Experience and Visit the Bulacan Fiestas

Bulacan is the site of many religious folk practices and rituals through which Bulakenyos display their native artistry and ingenuity, such as the fertility dances, kneeling carabao and other local festivals that they celebrate.

Here is the List of Festivals in Bulacan for the year.

• Halamanan Festival (Guiguinto) - January 22-23
• Malolos Republic Day - January 23
• Santo Nino Festival - Last Sunday of January

The biggest expression of devotion of the Holy Child Jesus in the Luzon island, celebrated every last Sunday of January. The festivities begin with an exhibit of “Santo Niño” (Holy Child) and culminate in a grand procession of hundreds of folk, antique and new statues of the Holy Child different manifestations, e.g., as sheperd boy, as keeper of the world, as a sleeping child, etc

• Santa Cruzan - May 1-31

The procession in honor of the Holy Christ is held in practically all towns and cities in the whole province. Every parish hours however celebrates the ending of the Flores de Mayo during the last week.

• Crucifixion Re-enactment (Kapitagan) - holyweek
• Carroza Procession (Baliuag) - Holyweek

Held every Holy Wednesday and Good Friday. The Prosisyon ng mga Santo, Baliuag’s main Lenten attraction. Is a grand parade of 60 layishly decorated floats depecting scenes of the Passion and Sufferings of Christ.

• Barasoin Kalinangan - Feb & July
• Lenten Rites and Flagellation - Good Friday

A way of repentance and sharing in the sufferings of Christ, worshippers whip themselves or have themselves crucified at Kapitangan, Paombong during the Holy Week. Also, religious rituals are celebrated in all the towns especially in Malolos, Plaridel and Pulilan. Families with old life-size “Santos” bring them out during this time to be part of the colorful processions on Maundy Thursday and Good Friday. On Easter Sunday, a little wooden angel (or a live little girl) descends from the Galilee to take off the virgin’s mourning veil

• Luyang Dilaw Festival (Marilao) - May 2
• Linggo ng Bulacan September 8-15

A week-long celebration consisting of various colourful cultural presentations, art and culinary exhibits, arts and skills contests, and the prestigious annual Dangal nf Lipi Awards Night. Yearly, its activities vary depending upon the chosen theme for the year.

• Kneeling Carabao Festival (Pulilan) - May 14-15

Hundreds of work animals, mostly carabaos, are led on a parade in the streets of the town every 14th and 15th of May to honor its patron saint. San Isidro Labrador. The carabaos decorated with garland and shaved for the occasion, genuflect or kneel in front of the church. Witness the colorful Carabao Festival and religious activities of the town. On the 14th of May, farmers all over the town pay tribute to their patron saint. San Isidro Labrador, in glorious thanksgiving for a year-long bountiful harvest. The celebration is manifested by hanging all sorts of fruits, candies, food crops and multi-colored kipings on bamboo poles. The affairs is highlighted by kneeling of carabaos in front of the church and the symbolic floats. Every year, a sea of frolicking humanity comes in droves to witness this showcasing inate talents of the carabaos.

• Fertility Dance Festival - (Obando) - May 17-19

The Obando fiesta is celebrated from May 17-19. Couples who are childless can take this occasion to appeal for heavenly intercession and dance to please the Virgin of Salambao. San Pascual de Bailon and Sta. Clara. Maidens and bachelors who want husbands and wives can dance for their mates. Farmers also thank the Virgin for bountiful harvests.

• Libad Festival (Calumpit) - June 23-24

A fluvial procession of well-decorated pagodas is held on the river every 23rd of June right before the annual town fiesta in honor of St. John the Baptist. Townfolks gaily sing, dance and frenzily douse water to “baptize” passers-by - prepare to get wet.

• Malolos Congress Day - September 15
• Angel Festival (San Rafael)  - September 29
• Horse Festival - Salubong (Plaridel) - December 29-30

Herd of horses with colorful tiburins parading in the streets of Plaridel in reverence to St. James the Apostle every 29th and 30th of December.

• Feast of the Holy Cross of Wawa

A festival held on the first Sunday of July observed in honor of the Holy Cross of Wawa (Mahal na Krus sa Wawa) which is said to have saved the life of an old woman who was drowning. The main feature of this fiesta celebration is the Pagoda which, glides along the Bocaue River. The Pagoda is a gaily-decorated structure riding on a huge banca. People from all walks of life enjoy the ride on the Pagoda feasting on sumptuous food while the music play.
