LUBI-LUBI FESTIVAL

The Festival

Sarangani’s oldest town, Glan, pays tribute to its primary produce, the coconut, in the celebration of the Lubi-Lubi Festival. Also called the Lubi-lubi sa Glan, the event is a dance festival that is held on the 8th of October, in Mindanao. Costumes of different colors made for parts of coconuts are worn by the participants in the street dancing competition, parades, and other street merrymaking events.

Held in honor of Santa Catalina de Alexandria, Lubi-lubi celebrates the abundance of coconut in the province, thus emphasizing the many uses of this wonderful palm tree. This once in year affair in Glan, one of seven towns of Sarangani, which is located at the southern part of the island of Mindanao, proves only that there is more to the coconut trees that just copra.

The Tampat Shrine is where a legendary Muslim missionary in the 15th century finds his resting ground. Muslims of Mindanao bring stones to the grave as their offerings. Built in early 1900s, ancestral houses in the municipality of Glan bear stunning collections of antiques and oriental decors. High balconies, canopies, concrete stepboards leading to wide wooden staircases leave the guests in awe.
