Ormoc originated from “Ogmok”, an old Visayan term for lowland or depressed plain. “Ogmok” also refers to a spring located between barriosof Donghol and Mahayag. The name “Ormoc” came into use with the coming of the Spanish conquistadores and the influx of people from the neighboring towns and islands to settle in the plains.
